Synopsis

Critics enjoyed Gerwig's colorful, self-aware comedy, crediting its inventive production design, running jokes about its own brand and a thoughtful streak about identity and expectations. The chief reservation was that its treatment of gender differences can end up reinforcing the essentialism it sets out to satirize.
